Just moved to Merced for college and was incredibly happy to find out about this place. Read a ton of awesome reviews about it and went there to get some feathers because my feathers from a different salon fell out after two days.

Came here with my roommate and boyfriend and it was the craziest journey.. it took us a while to actually realize that Retro Lux was inside Del Sol Tanning. If it weren't for the sign, we probably would never have found it. Hah! When we walked into the tanning place, the girl working there told us to walk to the side of the store because the entrance to the salon was through there. We slowly creeped because we weren't sure, but when we found it we were amazingly ecstatic!

Irma was the one who put on my feathers (3 for $15) as well as my braided feather extension =) I absolutely love them! She knew what she was doing and their feather "collection" was awesome! I've never seen so much variety and they were all perfect --- in fantastic condition. The last salon I went to there was barely a selection and most of them were all bare already.

I definitely know where to go, not just for feathers, but to get my hair done as well. The atmosphere was really nice and the employees were very friendly. I love it! - via Yelp

These Ladies are amazing!! It's like hanging out with your good friends but they are working on your hair :) The shop has a unique look, classy and vintage yet very professional and clean! I was refered there by a good friend, I would HIGHLY recommend going to Retro Lux, super nice and friendly girls who know what they are doing with hair, make up, nails and waxing. :)

Best Salon in town! I am moving and seriously don't think I will ever let anyone else touch my hair, so I am going to have to plan a trip back to Merced every six weeks just to get my hair done by Maryelyn Baxter!

Maryelyn & the Retro Lux ladys are the best in the Valley! My husband & I travel all the way from Fresno to have our hair done there. It is a fun friendly place with professional & up-to-date styles & haircuts. They are the best!!!

 "I get my hair done there about every 6 weeks.  Every time, I constantly have people stop me and ask where I got my hair done, and tell me how good it looks.  They are fun, affordable, etrememly nice and not to mention talented.  I have not had a bad experience there (and when I went there I was scared because I had had 3 horrible stylists in New York before I moved) but now I trust Maryelyn whole heartedly with my hair.  I have been trying to grow it out, and with her giving it minor trims (and encouraging me not to cut it like I asked her to) it went from a ear length pixie to now touching my shoulders.  During the grow out process, my hair never looked like it was growing out, it always had a cute style for whatever stage it was at.  Thanks Maryelyn for saving my hair!  

On another note, they book up fast, so call ahead and always rebook your next appointment when you are there, just to make sure you get what you want!  They are extrememly affordable, they don't do extra things to your hair just to make money.  I don't know how many times Maryelyn has given me advice, that saved me around $20, sometimes more!

They have a nail tech I went to once, I am going back today, I'll write a separate review for her soon.  So far, she rocks too!

Great girls, great prices, I love the Princess Party idea. I just got a partial highlight and a haircut for only $45!! I will deifinately go back, this salon is so cute!

Exceptional

best cut and highlight I've had in years! Maryelen did a beautiful job, exactly how I wanted my hair and exactly like the magazine picture I brought in, which no one else has ever achieved. The atmosphere is friendly and the stylists obviously are up on the latest techniques. I have finally found a home for my hair in Merced! btw, I called on short notice and was taken care of the very next day also, the price is great and they have great specials

Very cool place. Friendly gals and nice atmosphere. Nice decor, great prices, professional but not stuffy. I get my hair colored by the owner and would never stray. I have also planned a princess party there for my daughter, can't wait. It's just a fun place to hang out.

Im just so paranoid about my hair that I probably wouldve just went home died it all dark and forgot about trying anything new.
